When we bought the house every room in the house had an old linoleum “rug” on the floor. We had never seen this type of flooring before but after doing a bit of research we found out that this was a popular product … in the 1950’s! As nostalgic as they were, the linoleum rugs had to go. They were brittle and dirty and certainly dated looking. Ripping up the dining room rug was the very first thing I did right after we closed on the house. Layered beneath were newspaper sheets from 1954-55 used as (I don’t know what).

The one good thing about these rugs though was that they seemed to have protected/preserved the hardwood. A couple of months into the project we hired a contractor to sand and refinish all the wood floors on the First Floor with a clear satin polyurethane finish. We could not wait to see how they would turn out…and we were not disappointed. They are absolutely beautiful.
